Question
What is the value of all U.S. property?
Not to make anyone mad. I was just wondering if China was to foreclose on the U.S. because of our 12 trillion dollar debt (source: available anywhere on the net). What would the value of all property within the U.S. be worth, and wouldn't that mean by that point we would be owned by China?

The best answer you can get is the US's Gross Domestic Product. This number is a representation of how much money has exchanged hands. Assuming that money or any form of capital for that matter has any value until it exchanges hands... this number would give you exactly how much money all of the property in the US is worth right now. Currently, our GDP is estimated at $13.84 trillion.

Our 2008 GNP is $14,441,425,000,000 ($14,441 trillion). So the $12 trillion is about .08% of our country's total output. If you include the value of all of the property and land, then that %age is much, much, much less. It's probably comparable to you having in your possession $10 of debt from Microsoft. You would have very limited impact on their bottom line.

So basically you're saying China can seize everything we own? If so, no. China didn't give me the items, I used my OWN money to pay for them, so China can invent a new currency making machine that can create money 10x as fast and start giving their own money back.
