Question

How much does putting the correct weight on a package matter in the UK?

My situation is * I sold an item on ebay (for £80) on a 10 day listing * I said I'd post a package via 'RM First Class Recorded (Signed For)' on monday (IE, within 1 business day) * Unforseen circumstances see me unable to go to the post office on monday (I'll be seeing a relative in a hospital 150 miles away) So I chose to purchase and print off a postage label, but it needs a weight in grams. I don't have any scales about, but I'm almost certain that it's less than 500g, in fact my calculations based upon figures on the internet say it's about 250g. But what do I say the weight is? Does it need to be accurate?

Get a bit of wood or a ruler and a pencil/felt tip marker to use as a "balance" and weigh the package against food items in the kitchen which have the weight marked on the packet. If you reckon it's about 250g it should balance with a packet of butter.

only accurate enough that the correct or min postage is on it. If you overpay for postage, they probably won't care.
