What should I charge?
I am starting to babysit for the first time in a while and I need to know what I should charge. I am a certified Safe Sitter and am 14. Most of the kids I am going to be baby sitting are nurses children and doctors children. I have had prior experience babysitting (my little sister) and I am good at taking care of kids any age. :) Thank youu.

It depends on where you live and if you have competition. You should get an extra 1-2 an hour for the certification. If the people you sit for are financially comfortable, I would start with $10/hr. If there are more than 2 kids, add another 2.50/hr per kid. Now, if two families are going out and are mixing the kids, it's $10/hr PER FAMILY. They don't get to cheat by mixing up all the kids. You can just say "I have a policy of charging per family." Chances are, if they are going out once in awhile, they'll pay you more just for fun. If it's a regular gig, you'll get what you charge so stick to your guns and if they can't pay you one time or try to short change you then don't go back! Look professional, keep a payment log. That way you can say, "Oh, Mrs.Smith, I'm sorry but I can't work for you until I've gotten paid for last week. Are you able to do that now?" Ask other girls your age what they get. If you're in a big city, it may be $25/hr for all I know! Safe sitting! ~midwyfe
