Question

Avon gave me a product I didn't ask for now trying to make me pay for it.....?

I use to sell Avon and about every order there would be a little something extra that I never would ask for and then would have the option to either keep it and pay for it or send it back and have to pay for the Representative price (usually 20% of the regular price) I would always send this stuff back and unfortunately pay the price. This last time though they sent me 2 necklaces at $50 each that I again NEVER asked for and when I tried to return it they said they would take it back but at $39.99 each and I would have to pay for shipping which would of been $20 for each item so in total I would of paid close to $100. When I said I refused to pay for any of it they closed my account and sent me to collections. Now collections is telling me I have 2 weeks to pay $200 (not sure how it spiked 200) or else it will be taken to court. I have tried many times to call avon and get this figured out but all I get is Voice Mails and no one returns my calls. I don't have ANY extra money I live paycheck to paycheck but don't feel I should pay for products i never ordered or asked for. I'm stuck on what I should do?

It sounds to me like you have the Preferred Preview. What that is, is when new items come out, UNLESS you call to not have it sent, they automatically send it to you. What number are you calling at Avon, because if you call their 1-800 number it's not a voice mail, you get a direct person. They don't turn you in to collections until your account is 6 months in the rears. Did you go online to EZ returns to process your return.

You could try filing a complaint with your local Better Business Bureau and see if they will help.

Talk to a lawyer at legal aid or find one that is willing to help you without charging you a high fee. Most towns have lawyers that help lower income folks at no or low cost. It will probably only take a letter from a lawyer to get them to back off.
